Start 2014 with some new experiences

Lake Oswego Parks and Rec now offers adult ballet classes. Embrace your inner ballerina and join us for an evening full of classic ballet. The little ones can take part in a one-day Nutcracker Camp.

This winter you can learn to play the guitar, become a master oil painter or any number of other activities through Parks and Rec. Try something new in the new year.

Basic Ballet for Adults. Learn the basics of classical ballet while stretching and strengthening and improving balance, flexibility and fitness. For ages 16 and older, 5:15 to 6:15 p.m. Mondays, Jan. 6 through March 24, $65.

Nutcracker Camp. Learn characterizations and dance variations from The Nutcracker Ballet. Supplies included; no dance experience required. Bring a light snack and a clear liquid drink. For ages 4 to 9, 9:30 a.m. to noon Jan. 4, $43.

Nia. This class is transformational powerful, graceful and fun. For ages 14 and older, 9:15 to 10:25 a.m. Tuesday and Thursday, Jan. 2 through March 13, $177.

Art, Music and Improvisation. Tap into your creative side; listen to music and create music and art and explore how the two work together. For ages 5 to 8, 4 to 4:55 p.m. Mondays, Jan. 6 through Feb. 24, $101.

Intro to Guitar. This course is designed to teach students of all ages the basic fundamentals and techniques needed to play guitar in any musical style. For ages 7 to 12, 6 to 6:55 p.m., Mondays, Jan. 6 through Feb. 24, $98.

Knitting for Beginners. Learn all the skills required to complete a basic scarf project. Topics covered include reading yarn labels, understanding gauge, casting on, the knit stitch, the purl stitch, various stitch patterns and binding off.

For ages 16 and older, 1 to 3 p.m. Sundays, Jan. 5 through 26, $35.

Bob Ross Oil Painting-Deep Wilderness Home. This step-by-step class takes beginners to seasoned painters from a blank canvas to a finished masterpiece in one class. All supplies are provided. Physically challenged students are welcome. For ages 12 and older, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Jan. 2, $48.

One-Day Meditation Workshop. Give yourself a day for meditation and renew with daily practice. Learn breath awareness and total mind-body relaxation. Learn how to apply methods of meditation and mindfulness while sitting, walking, exercising, working and eating. For ages 18 and older, 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Jan. 4, $30.
