It’s the start of the new year and if you’re thinking about getting in shape for 2014 try fitness classes at the Lake Oswego Adult Community Center. Choose from a variety of classes on various days, times and even instructors. by: SUBMITTED - Exercise and fitness classes are offered throughout the week at the Lake Oswego Adult Community Center. There’s still room in Sit and Be Fit, gentle yoga, strength training and the always popular Zumba Gold 50+ classes. New classes this session include back care, floor exercise and gentle chair yoga.

There’s still time to register, call 503-635-3758 or visit the center for more information. Call the center to make lunch reservations, too. Cost is a suggested donation of $4 for those 60 and older and $5 for all others. Lunch service runs from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Friday, Jan. 3

Quilters in Stitches, the center’s quilting group, meets from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. working cooperatively on various quilting projects. Anyone interested in quilting is welcome to join the group. Lunch is served by Lake Bible Church; entrée is chicken stew. The Woodman Chronicles, hosted by Frank Woodman, begins at 1 p.m. This week’s movie is “Call of the Wild.” Mac users group meets in the Alder room from 1 to 2:30 p.m.

Monday, Jan. 6

The computer users group meets from 9:30 to 11 a.m., contact the center for information on weekly topics and presenters. LO Weekly Walkers meet at 9:15 a.m. in the lobby prior to departure. Contact Krstl Robbins at 503-635-0041 for more information. Our Lady of the Lake Church volunteers serve lunch; entrée is salmon with orange teriyaki sauce. The mixed media group meets from 1 to 3 p.m. Bring a media of your choice to work on in a supportive and social setting.

Tuesday, Jan. 7

Play mahjong between 1 and 4 p.m. with no cost or preregistration required. This group is for experienced players.

Wednesday, Jan. 8

Lunch is served by United Methodist Church volunteers. Entrée is salmon with hollandaise sauce. The weekly supervised computer lab runs from 1 to 2:30 p.m. No cost or registration required. From 1 to 3 p.m., experienced pinochle players meet in the Willow room. Call in advance to let us know you are coming so the group can coordinate play. Thursday, Jan. 9

The Creative Hands group meets from 9:30 a.m. to noon to work on handicraft projects that are given to various nonprofit charities in the community. Projects are made from donated materials. Newcomers always welcome.
