Got questions? Ask Julie Hoover

by: SUBMITTED PHOTO - Julie Hoover welcomes vistors to the West Linn Adult Community Center on Wednesday afternoons.

You may already know the West Linn Adult Community runs on the efforts of volunteers with financial assistance from the city. And one of the critical volunteer jobs is that of the front desk worker.

Our newest front desk worker is Julie Hoover, a recently retired Stafford Elementary School librarian. Twenty-five years helping kids navigate the school’s information system was enough, so last September Hooever retired.

Uncertain and a little nervous about how she would spend her time in retirement, she agreed to help at the front desk for three hours on Wednesday afternoons. You will recognize her as an attractive woman with pretty grey hair, a sparkle in her eyes and the easygoing aspect of a kindly librarian.

Hoover is a native Oregonian who grew up in North Portland and attended Roosevelt High School. She married her husband, Bob, a safety inspector, and together they had one son, Rob, who lives nearby and who has contributed three grandchildren to the family.

Once a week, Hooever picks up her 13-year-old grandson, Justin, and takes him to McDonald’s for lunch. Justin said he loves the time he gets to spend with his grandma, and Hoover loves the time just as much.

She enjoys sewing, painting, quilting and an occasional golf game. And as soon as her husband finishes rehabbing his second knee replacement, they hope to play some golf together.

So if you find yourself at the WLACC on Wednesday afternoon, introduce yourself to Julie Hoover. She’s a natural front desk greeter and we’re pleased to have her.

Here are the upcoming week’s activities. Call the WLACC at 503-557-4704 for specific times and possible fees. Also, all lunches listed below are subject to change, but only for the better.

Also, our gift shop annex at DJ’s Treasures on the Hill Antique Mall, 1607 Beavercreek Road, Oregon City, is now open for business. The gift shop is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Cash, checks and well-behaved children are always welcome.
