Here are ideas for indoor recreation

by: SUBMITTED PHOTO - Come play basketball and other sports during open gym time this winter.

How will you spend the remaining weeks of winter in West Linn? If you are feeling restless and looking for opportunities to get moving again this is a great time of year to check out one of the open gym programs through West Linn Parks and Recreation.

The lack of commitment makes open gym a great option for adults with busy schedules. A minimal nightly drop-in fee offsets program costs.

For the past two years, both men and women participate in the Tuesday night Over 35 Basketball Open Gym at the Willamette Primary School gymnasium. The program is coordinated by a parks and recreation staff person who facilitates team formation throughout the night.

Games are played with teams made of up to five players; first team to score 15 points wins. The winners stay and play an entire new group of players. Winners are limited to three games in a row. The gym is open from 8:30 to 10 p.m. and open gym runs through June 18 (school is not available on March 11). Drop-in fees are $3 for in city, $5 out of city. Volleyball open gym options are available for players of all skill levels, recreational through competitive. These two programs have operated more than a decade thanks to dedicated volunteer program leaders. For a $2 nightly drop in fee you can play from 8 to 10 p.m. Monday nights at Willamette Primary School gymnasium.

This co-ed program is for those 18 and older, and runs through June 18 (school unavailable Feb. 20, March 26 and May 28). For more information, contact David Nepom at 503-657-3106 or email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

Experienced players will enjoy the competitive challenge of Power Volleyball Open Gym held on two courts at Athey Creek Middle School gymnasium from 8 to 10 p.m. A nightly drop-in fee of $2 is collected. Open gym will run on Tuesdays through June 19 (school unavailable March 27). For further information, contact Steve Young at 503-750-6151 or This email address is being protected from spambots.
