Social Security workshop offered to boomers

Joseph Alfonso, a NAPFA-registered financial adviser, will present a free workshop on Social Security from 10 to 11:30 a.m. March 15 at Lake Grove Presbyterian Church, 4040 Sunset Drive in Lake Oswego. Soroptimist club to hold annual awards ceremony

Soroptimist International of Lake Oswego/West Linn (SI of LO/WL) will hold its annual awards ceremony beginning at 6:30 p.m. March 24 at Marylhurst University, 17600 Pacific Highway, Marylhurst. The event honors women returning to school to build job skills and knowledge and girls who volunteer to improve the lives of women and girls.

In addition to the presentation of the Women’s Opportunity Award, the Violet Richardson Award and the Fellowship Award, cash grants will be presented to support local social, legal and leadership development organizations.

Get help with stuttering at library

Help is available for adults and teens who stutter in the form of a DVD, “If You Stutter: Advice for Adults,” available at most public libraries.

The DVD features men and women who stutter discussing their experiences with stuttering and the techniques that have helped them. They talk openly about the problems they face in the work place and how stuttering affects their lives and their self esteem.

Books and DVDs produced by the nonprofit Stuttering Foundation are available free to any public library.

Curves collecting food for food bank

Curves of West Linn is participating in the 2014 Curves Food Drive, taking place across the US and Canada through March 23. Members and nonmembers are encouraged to bring nonperishable food or a monetary contribution to the center located at 19129 Willamette Drive in the Robinwood Center. New members who make a food or cash donation will be allowed to join at no cost as either a Fitness or Curves Complete member.

CureSearch Walk set for Sept. 27

CureSearch Walk for Children’s Cancer has been scheduled for Sept. 27 at Oak’s Amusement Park. This is a family-friendly walk that raises funds for pediatric cancer research and treatment. All are encouraged to form a team or donate funds to the walk.
