Whiteford drives the bus, volunteers in many ways

by: SUBMITTED PHOTO - Dave Whiteford volunteers as a bus driver for the Lake Oswego Adult Community Center, taking members on outings.

Meet Dave Whiteford, a valued volunteer at the Lake Oswego Adult Community Center since May 2008.

Dave raised his three children in Lake Oswego with his beautiful bride of more than 55 years, Molly. While raising the family, they were avid downhill and cross-country skiers, spending every winter weekend at Mount Hood.

Dave spent a portion of his career working at Allied Chemical Company, which required him to drive all over the Northwest. So to drive the buses for the center was a natural fit. Dave’s good friend, Bob St. John, mentioned the opportunity, and a few years later when time allowed, Dave signed up. He is a focused driver, not easily distracted, safely taking our members to and from the ACC and on trips.

Dave not only volunteers as a driver but also has participated in tai chi and loves learning about birds in the birds class. When Dave is not busy volunteering or participating, he does house and yard work, sails the lake and travels. He has traveled all over the world from Europe to Africa to Australia, with a lean towards Australia as his favorite destination. Dave is a terrific volunteer who provides an invaluable service to our members. Feel free to call the ACC if you are interested in volunteering.
