Book discussions always interesting

The best thing about the West Linn Adult Community Center’s book group is that it’s made up of smart, literate, funny people. But the real best thing is that these people frequently disagree with one another regarding a book’s merits and launch into good-natured debates defending their respective positions, often resulting in agreeing to disagree.

But the real, real best thing is Luella Hunt, the group’s facilitator, who moves the discussion along briskly and isn’t afraid to pull out her old teacher voice to shush people when more than one conversation threatens to blow up the whole enterprise.

The format for the discussion is very informal. First, each person is given an opportunity to give a short reaction to the book. Then Luella — or others — throw out questions for general discussion.

The group meets on the second Wednesday of the month from 1 until 2 p.m.

The book selected for May is “A Walk in the Woods” by Bill Bryson. There is no fee. If you’d like to participate, just read the book and show up at 1 p.m. May 14. Bring some opinions.

Our annual Easter Dinner will be held at noon April 18. We’ll be serving ham and turkey as entrees. If you’d like to contribute a side dish that will serve at least twelve, the meal is only $2. Otherwise, the cost is $6. WLACC is located at 1180 Rosemont Road.
