Lake Oswego Adult Community Center Program Supervisor Maria Bigelow ponders living somewhere other than Lake Oswego. She shares her thoughts:
A couple months ago, my husband and I took another trip to Arizona, and with each trip, I like Arizona more and more. That got us contemplating why we live in Portland — and do we even like it? It also got me thinking of all the places I would love to live even for a short while. Hence the dream of a travel van we can park anywhere we wish and live in any community throughout the country.
We live in Portland to be close to family, but with busy lives we don't see family all that often. So why not live — even temporarily — in incredible places that suit your lifestyle? For example, why not retire in Mexico and truly live like a local? Enrich your life with culture, food and learning a new language. The desire might be there but the thought might seem scary; so many unknowns and questions you don't know where to get the answers. Melanie Lansing has the answers!
Melanie is a native Oregonian and long-term resident of San Miguel de Allende in Mexico. She will present "Retiring in Mexico: Tips from an Expert" from 10:30 a.m.-noon June 8 at the center. She will share information about six popular cities in Mexico, including housing and rental costs, living expenses, healthcare services and more. There will also be a 30-minute Q&A session.
Even if you are not planning to retire soon, this is a great opportunity to gain insight into the pros and cons of retiring in Mexico. Melanie shares her knowledge and expertise free of charge. The information could also be used to give everyone a guideline on what to consider before you uproot and move anywhere. Call to register, space is limited.
The lunch menu this week features fish and chips on Friday, June 2; the Comfort Food Monday entrée is mac and cheese with Polish dogs on June 5; and enjoy Kahlua pork on Wednesday, June 7. Cost is a suggested donation of $4 for those 60 and older and $5 for everyone else.
