WL Parks offers summer of fun
Do you want your child to have fun engaging activities that will support continued learning and personal growth over the summer months?
West Linn Parks & Recreation offers camps that do just that. The excitement starts in local parks and flows to attractions inside and outside the City.
An experienced and energetic staff has been hired to engage kids and keep the summer fun for all. Fun in the Sun, Shorty Sporty and Mini Campers camps have been popular options for West Linn kids for more than 20 years. Check out the details below; register early as space is limited: n Fun in the Sun is a traditional day camp program designed to provide fun activities for youth. The one-week sessions are held at Hammerle, Marylhurst Heights and Willamette parks and offer arts, games, sports, social and cultural activities and nature study. The camps will take weekly field trips and bring in presenters or activities each week. Camper to staff ratio 10:1; weekly sessions for ages 6-12 start June 26 and run through the summer, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday-Friday. The cost is $110 per week.
n Mini Camper camp is a mini version of Fun in the Sun — it's half-days, meeting 12:30-3:30 p.m. Monday-Friday. Camper to staff ratio is 8:1; weekly sessions of camps for ages 4-6 start the week of June 26. The cost is $54 per week.
n Shorty Sporty Camp is designed as an introduction to several sports, exercise and learning with an emphasis on learning new skills in a non-competitive environment. Camper to staff ratio is 8:1; weekly sessions of camps for ages 4-6 start June 26 and run through the summer, 9 a.m.-noon Monday-Friday, cost is $54 per week.
n Paddle Sports Camp is a water-paddling sport day camp offered through a partnership with eNRG Kayaking. Their American Canoe Association-certified instructors will oversee the camps and instruct youth on river safety, proper paddling techniques in canoes, kayaks and stand-up paddle boards while incorporating fun games to try to give all campers a great day. Sessions start June 26 and run 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday-Wednesday at Willamette Park. Other sessions scheduled for July and August. Cost is $225 which includes equipment use.
n Voice Overs: Now is Your Time teaches people to use their speaking voice for commercials, films and videos. Learn a unique, outside-the-box way to cash in on one of the most lucrative full or part-time careers available. Class will be held from 6:30-8:30 p.m. June 28. Cost is $35.
In addition, Safety Town volunteers are needed. West Linn-Wilsonville middle and high school students who are experienced and enjoy working with young children and looking for community service hours or work experience are encouraged to volunteer.
Safety Town is for children, ages 4-6 years, to learn about a variety of safety topics in a fun and age-appropriate day camp setting. Volunteer leaders supervise small groups of campers and reinforce daily lessons. Two-hour training provided. Camps are held 9-11 a.m. Aug. 14-18 and 21-25.
