Northwest Reflections: Six Printmakers and a Potter opens Friday

Reception to be held 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, May 2

by: SUBMITTED PHOTO - This print, Creekside Sunset by Jan Fowler, will be among those displayed in a new exhibit opening Friday.

Northwest printmakers John Allgood, Sue Allen, Jan Fowler, Jani Holberg, Barbara Mason and Deb Neely, plus potter Ha Austin, will exhibit their recent works in Northwest Reflections: Six Printmakers and a Potter on display at 510 Museum & ARTspace, 510 First St. in Lake Oswego.

Presented by the Arts Council of Lake Oswego, the exhibit opens Friday with a reception from 5 to 7 p.m. and continues through May 30.

“Although the printers work in the same medium, their use of materials and methods are starkly divergent,” ACLO Program Manager Lori Goldstein said. “Through a lifetime of study, instruction and creation, these artists have developed a careful balance between the discipline and spontaneity that the craft requires.

“Printmaking as a fine art medium is described as process-rich. Oftentimes, professional printmakers warn their students against getting lost in this process. They are taught not to ignore the basic elements and principles of design, in exchange for the hot pursuit of that ineffable technique that will produce an amazing result.

“In this exhibition, these six Northwest printmakers plan to shed some light on their own, and until now, undisclosed printmaking processes.”

Exhibit attendees can view each artist’s processes of creation to gain an understanding of how they achieve the final form of the work.

Potter Ha Austin will display her pottery in the show as well.

Austin, the potter of the group, will also demonstrate her process. The artists will demonstrate their processes from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. each Saturday at the gallery.

Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday and by appointment for the duration of the show. Contact Goldstein at 503-675-2531 for more information.

John Allgoods prints will be among those exhibited at 510 Museum and ARTspace through May 30.
