Stumptown Stages continues its 10th anniversary season with the original musical adaptation of “It’s a Wonderful Life.” Performances begin Dec. 11.

Based on the 1946 film, this heart-warming original musical returns for a third season to tell the story of George Bailey. Take the journey with George through his childhood dreams, his midlife disappointments and his discovery of how one life can make a difference and touch the hearts of many.

The production features Max Demers as George Bailey, Tara Beanblossom as Mary Hatch and Joe Theissen as Mr. Potter.

This musical adaptation of Frank Capra’s classic film is the winner of seven 2013 PAMTA awards.

Book is by Janet Mouser, music and lyrics are by Alan Berg, Michael Allen Harrison and Julianne R. Johnson-Weiss. Direction is by Tony Award winner Corey Brunish; choreography by Roger Welch and musical direction by Mak Kastelic.

“Making a new musical typically takes about five years,” Brunish said. “This is our third presentation of this clever and moving new work by the team of Berg, Johnson, Harrison and Mouser. While the story is familiar, the message is timeless and the emotions evoked are both anticipated and surprising upon each viewing. Our story deals with struggle, ambition, triumph and those who would keep you from it. Like perennial favorite ‘The Wizard of Oz,’ the Film of ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’ became ingrained in our psyche through repeated seasonal television airings. But unlike the former, our story was not a musical — until now.”

The preview performance is scheduled for Dec. 11, with performances running through Dec. 28. Performances are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Tickets range in price from $26 to $43.65 and can be purchased online at stumptownstages.org, by calling the box office at 800-273-1530 or at the box office at 1111 S.W. Broadway Ave., Portland.

Performances are held at Brunish Theatre at Antoinette Hatfield Hall, 1111 S.W. Broadway, Portland.
