Park Avenue Salon, in Canby, has recently changed ownership and names. Christina Brownlee, a Molalla resident, worked as a hair dresser at Park Avenue Salon for 12 years. When the owner decided to close up shop, Brownlee opened Aura Salon, Spa and Laser in the same location.

Along with changing the business’s name, Brownlee remodeled the shop and expanded her business model. Park Avenue Salon specialized only in hair, Brownlee said. Seeing a hole in the market, Brownlee hired two new employees that specialize in manicures, pedicures and laser hair removal.

Laser hair removal service especially was lacking in this area, Brownlee said, with many people having to drive to Oregon City or Lake Oswego for the service.

Brownlee also changed up the atmosphere a bit. She added a fridge for drinks and a coffee bar. “It’s a lot better atmosphere,” Brownlee said. “We’re more customer-service based.”

The new atmosphere is drawing in some new clientele, but much of the clientele Park Avenue Salon had is remaining on with Aura Salon. Two of Brownlee’s employees worked at Park Avenue Salon for 15 years, so they are carrying over their clientele as well. Many of their clients are from Molalla.

Brownlee has lived in Molalla for 11 years. She has two daughters, and her husband is the president of the Molalla Youth Sports. “We’re very involved in the community,” Brownlee said.

The business officially opened Sept. 1, but the grand opening is Wednesday, Nov. 16, from 6-9 p.m. Desert and wine will be available.
