Three subjects were taken into custody in Molalla on Sunday, Aug. 20 after they confessed to theft at the Molalla Les Schwab store on HWY 213.
Molalla Police units were patrolling the area when at approximately 1:08 a.m. they spotted an unoccupied silver Dodge pickup parked behind the store. The trailer attached to the truck was filled with tires and rims. After investigating the scene, police discovered that the approximately $5,000 worth of merchandise was stolen from three fenced areas behind the store.
While police were still at the scene, a 911 call was made to police dispatch claiming that a hit and run crash had just occurred at the intersection of HWY 213 and HWY 211 in Molalla. But the Molalla Police suspected that the call may have been an attempt to distract from the theft, so they maintained surveillance of the vehicle while one unit responded to the hit and run call.
At this point, two males and a female came out of hiding and attempted to return to the parked vehicle.
The suspects were arrested after they confessed to a Molalla Police detective. They were identified as Craig Di Nucci, 55, Robert Barnett, 44, and Julia Kraus, 37, all from the Portland area.
Each of the three were charged with theft and criminal mischief. In addition, Di Nucci was charged with providing false information to a peace officer, and Kraus was charged with initiating a false police report.
Anyone who has additional information regarding this case is urged to call the Molalla Police Department at 503-829-8817.
