What's Up: Jan. 24-30
An Arthritis Education workshop will be held Tuesday, Jan. 23, from 10:45-11:45 a.m. at the Molalla Adult Community Center. What is arthritis, how does it affect your body and what are some ways to manager/treat the pain? Jenn Fifer from Home Instead Senior care will be the speaker.
Trauma 101 workshop
Colton School District is hosting a Trauma 101 Community Workshop at the district office on Wednesday, Jan. 24 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. It will cover the original ACEs Study by Kaiser Permanente and some of its findings about how trauma impacts people. There will also be discussion about how trauma affects the brain and the implications that has for school. The district will also share some of the strategies they are using to support students. The workshop will wrap up with information about how to build resiliency in students, which can help inoculate students against the impacts of trauma. The community listening and learning session will follow directly after and go until 7:30 p.m.
The Molalla Community Planning Organization (CPO) will meet Wednesday, January 24th at 6:30pm at the Molalla Public Library. Items on the agenda include a discussion of CPO insurance as well as election of officers and representatives. The Molalla CPO offers an opportunity for those who live in the unincorporated area surrounding the City of Molalla to learn about and comment on matters facing them. All are welcome to attend. Citizenship classThe Molalla Public Library will be offering a 12-week program for those interested in becoming United States citizens. The program begins Thursday, Jan. 25, from 6 to 8 p.m. Sign up is requested. The program will cover the basic information needed to successfully pass the civics portion of the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services test. One of the presenters is fluent in Spanish. The Knights of Columbus is hosting a blood drive at St. James Catholic Church, 301 Frances St. in Molalla, on Thursday, Feb. 8 from 2-7 p.m. Your blood is needed more than you may think. Mt. Angel Wurstfest takes place Friday and Saturday, Feb. 9-10, in the Mt. Angel Festhalle, 500 S. Wilco Hwy.The event runs from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. both days. Adult admission is $5 or $10 with specialty stein or glass (limited availability).
Special events include Senior Day from opening to 3 p.m. on Friday for those over age 65 with some limited, but special, giveaways. On Saturday, RaceNorthwest sponsors the Wurst 5 and 10K Run & Walk starting at 9:30 a.m. Fees include registration, course map, entry to Wurstfest, beer glass and a complimentary beverage.
