Colton volunteer firefighters raise $4,000 at annual auction
Last Saturday, the volunteer firefighters of Colton Rural Protection District #70 held their annual fundraising auction. The crowd was down a bit this year thanks to a rainy morning and the decision to not put up the tent because the forecast called for sun. But, those who were there knew how to bid and helped the volunteers earn more than $4,000.
Volunteer firefighter, Engineer Chris Wilson, took the microphone as this year's auctioneer. He kept the audience smiling and the bids coming. There were some big ticket items donated this year including a riding lawn mower, wood crafted bench, tools and household items. The generous donations helped the department raise a higher than usual monetary auction total. The day was complete with breakfast, garage sale event and lunch.
According to the volunteer organization, the funds raised will be used for community purposes including donating to the Justin Fraijo Memorial Scholarship. The money will be used for many community projects throughout the year including the Easter Egg Hunt, Colton Aid Network and various causes within Colton and the firefighting family.
Pips a hit
Pip's Gourmet Dogs and Cones opened last Saturday to a huge crowd. The new eatery is located in the Molalla Market Center on the east side of the strip mall. It offers Chicago style, Carolina Special, Southwest and Reuben and Coney dogs. There is also hand-dipped premium ice cream in a cone, waffle or sugar, sundaes and milk shakes all made with premium ice cream!
Owner, Colton resident, Greg Adams (not the teacher), reported that on opening day he and his crew served 292 "dogs." Pips is open daily from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Children's Choir to have community performance
The Imani Milele Choir will perform for the local community on Thursday, May 25 at Colton High School, 30205 South Wall Street at 7 p.m. There is no entrance cost but donations are accepted for the Christian organization who is hosting the event. Funds raised go to rescue, educate, develop and improve the lives of Uganda's orphaned children.
