Multiple Indians place at Molalla meet on Jan. 29, leading the girls team to second place and the boys to fourth.

by: CORY MIMMS - Molalla's swimmers cheer on their teammates in the water.The Molalla Aquatic Center was packed on Wednesday night, as five high school swim teams joined Molalla in the water. Molalla’s girls team took second place, with 82 points, and the boys team took fourth, with 27 points.

Stuart Moore took two first-place finishes, one in the 200 freestyle (2:07.85) and another in the 500 freestyle (5:48.02).

The Indians also had two fifth-place finishes. Mitchell Hagler clocked in at 27.71 in the 50 freestyle, and Killian Ramirez finished the 100 butterfly in 1:21.94.

On the girls side, Megan Penni finished fourth in the 200 freestyle (2:31.96) and fifth in the 100 freestyle (1:08.67). Calley Baker came in fifth in the 200 individual medley (2:59.68), followed closely by Suzy Botsford (3:00.08).

Kayla Watkins came in third in the 50 freestyle (28.64). She was neck and neck with the first- and second-place finishers, who finished 27.45 and 27.67. Jenny Powell finished just a couple seconds after Watkins in the 50 freestyle, coming in seventh (31.76). Watkins also took second in the 100 freestyle (1:03.1).

Kirstin Glenn took fourth in the 100 butterfly (1:32.09). Carolyn Botsford finished two spots behind her, in sixth (1:39.58).

Two of the Indians placed in the 500 freestyle. Mercedes Helberg took seventh (8:08.2), and Casey McGuire took eighth (8:14).

In the 100 backstroke, Powell took sixth (1:22.89) and Glenn took eighth (1:26.33).

Suzy Botsford came in sixth in the 100 breaststroke (1:28.66) and Baker eighth (1:36.21).

Senior night

This was the final home meet for Molalla, and it was senior night. The Indians have nine seniors on the team: Steven Chicas, Killian Ramirez, Justin Hoskinson (not swimming due to injury), Natalie Hobgood (not swimming due to injury), Amanda Clarke, Carolyn Botsford, Jenny Powell, Megan Penni, and Kayla Watkins.

This week, on Saturday, Feb. 8, the Indians swim at Blanchet. They then move on to districts next week.
