The Vikings (1-4) play their first league games this week.

The Colton Vikings enter league play on unsteady feet this week, coming off four losses and one win in preseason.

“We got beat up pretty good in those five games,” Coach Gary Parks said. “It took a huge toll on the pitching … Everyone pitched. Some [boys] went two or three innings, some went one. We got killed a lot, but a lot of freshmen got to play and that was great. We’re not where I think we should be at this time though.”

The Vikings open league at home against Willamina (1-6) on Tuesday, April 1. They follow that game on the road versus Gervais (0-6) on Friday, March 4. They end the week back in nonleague play in Corbett (1-1) on Saturday, April 5.

The Vikings were supposed to play Taft last Friday, but the field was “too soggy” for the game, Parks said, and getting the game moved to another field didn’t work out.
