Annual event honors local businesses, individuals
The annual Madras-Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce 2013 Awards Banquet is Thursday, Sept. 19.
The banquet where the community champion of the year, business of the year, volunteer of the year and senior citizen of the year are crowned will be held at the Inn at Cross Keys Station in Madras.
The banquet is being held a month earlier than it has been historically, and on a week night instead of a weekend day. The reasons for that, according to chamber Executive Director Joe Krenowicz, are several.
After our chamber poll earlier this year, our membership heavily favored having the awards banquet held on a Thursday evening versus Saturday evening, said Krenowicz. Many conversations have been entertained regarding the many weekend community events and fundraising efforts that occur from the first of May through October, and how that impacts the many participants and supporters valuable weekend time. We have all been through the personal quandary of going to a favorite local event on Friday night or Saturday versus taking a complete weekend off, starting Friday evening, for personal or family time.
The banquet is being held on the third Thursday in month, when the chamber usually facilitates a Business After Hours event. The banquet is taking the place of that in September.
The banquet will begin at 6 p.m. with a social hour, followed by dinner at 7 p.m. The awards will be presented following dinner.
Black Bear Diner is catering the banquet and Alpha Omicron Sorority will be the service staff. The Madras Elks Club will be catering the no-host beverages throughout the evening. The banquet is a fundraiser for both service clubs.
Tickets for the event are $40 each. The chamber asks that those planning to attend RSVP at the above contact number and/or email address.
