Ten groups receive cultural grants

A total of $7,500 was granted to 10 Jefferson County nonprofit organizations for projects that promote arts, heritage and humanities in the county.

The selection committee honors the good these groups do and encourages everyone to attend, visit and learn from these projects and events.

The grant recipients were:

• Wy’East Resource Conservation and Development Council, as the fiscal sponsor for Madras Saturday Market, to fund musician performances at the market.

• Jefferson County Historical Society, to resume publication of “The Agate” newsletter in 2014.

• Madras High School, for National History Day workshops.

• Buff Intermediate School, for its fifth annual Multicultural Festival, May 17.

• Jefferson County Middle School Arts and Leadership group, for continuation of developing and painting murals for JCMS walls.

• Jefferson County Library District, as fiscal sponsor for three projects: the Summer Reading Program’s children’s book giveaway; the JCLD Library Band, for music supplies and instrument repairs; and the Early Literacy Program to fund learning kits for parents and young children.

• Culver middle and high schools, for Challenge Day programs in late January 2014 for students in grades seven through 12.

• High Desert Community Theater, to purchase mobile sound and lighting systems.

The JCCC (www.jeffersonculture.org) is a nonprofit organization that receives annual funds from the Oregon Cultural Trust to support programs and activities that preserve the arts, heritage and humanities in Jefferson County.
