On March 2, at approximately 6 a.m., a commercial truck pulling a semitrailer was southbound on Highway 97 near milepost 62 when the truck's driver lost control traveling downhill entering a curve.

The truck and trailer traveled across the northbound lane and went off the west side of Highway 97, rolling onto its top and causing the trailer split open and spill apples across the embankment. Both fuel tanks were punctured, leaking approximately 140 gallons of diesel on the ground. The truck's driver, who was using safety restraints, was able to get out of the truck on his own power with minor injuries. He was transported by ambulance to St. Charles Madras. His name was not available. Oregon State Police was assisted at the scene by South Sherman Fire and Rescue and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
