Teen remains in jail for shooting of girlfriend

by: SUBMITTED PHOTO - Thomas KnappThe 18-year-old Madras man who was charged with Nov. 30 shooting of his girlfriend will be back in court for a status hearing Wednesday, March 12.

Thomas Knapp is charged with first-, second- and third-degree assault, and unlawful use of a weapon for shooting his girlfriend, Jessica Haynes, 23, of Madras, in the face.

According the the arrest affidavit, Madras police officers responded to the apartment Haynes and Knapp shared on Nov. 30, at 10:08 p.m., after a report of a shooting. They arrested Knapp, and called for emergency help for Haynes, who had been shot in the face with a 9mm handgun.

Haynes was transported by Air Life to St. Charles Bend, and has been receiving medical care since the incident. (See story on page 1.)

Knapp pleaded not guilty to the charges and has been in custody since Nov. 30, with security set at $150,000.
