A Culver man and a Washington truck driver both received injuries after the truck rear-ended an SUV in an accident Friday, April 4, on U.S. Highway 97 south of Madras.

According to Oregon State Police, at 6:10 p.m., Friday, a Chevy Tahoe driven by Kelly Gross, 46, of Culver, was headed south on U.S. 97, and began stopping to make a left-hand turn onto Southwest Jericho Lane.

A semi-truck, pulling a trailer loaded with walnuts, driven by Dharam Vir, 43, of Woodland, Wash., rear-ended the Tahoe, pushing it out of the lane and causing significant damage.

A Life Flight helicopter was called, but then cancelled after medics arrived and assessed the situation. Vir was transported to St. Charles Redmond, and Gross to St. Charles Madras. Both reportedly had minor injuries.

Following an OSP investigation, Vir was cited for careless driving. OSP was assisted at the scene by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, fire department personnel, and Oregon Department of Transportation personnel.
