Fish and chips dinner

The Airshow of the Cascades is looking for a person who would like to volunteer to manage and coordinate the annual fish and chips dinner on Friday night of the air show, Aug. 22.

"This event is part of our history, taking us back years and is very popular with the pubic, pilots and sponsors," said Rick Allen, secretary-treasurer of the event. "Currently, 500 dinners are served from 5-7 p.m. We have the systems down pretty tight; it works smooth and is fun."

Organizers hope to find a person who already has a food handler's license, or is willing to obtain the license online. "They are not difficult or complicated to get," Allen said.

Prior to the show, the organizer needs to make sure the fryers are ready to go, and on the Friday of the show, accept delivery of the food and properly store it until the dinner hour.

Serving of the food is typically handled by local companies that provide staff to collect the money, cook the food and serve. The organizer's job would be to help coordinate with them.

A team from Payne West Insurance has provide that support for years, Allen said, adding, "They know what they are doing."

"We look forward to finding that person to help us out in this important task," he said. "We are not looking for a life commitment, but hopefully, a three-year commitment."
