Marks county's 100th anniversary
Celebrating the 100th anniversary of Jefferson County with the theme "From Pioneer Days to Modern Ways," the 81st annual Jefferson County Fair opened to the public July 23.
The free fair, held at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds, opens to the public at 10 a.m. every day through July 26. All buildings remain open through 10 p.m. each day.
Thursday, July 24, will be Kids Day, with special events for youths throughout the day, including the Family Fun Night at 6 p.m. in the Corwin Arena, and the Talent Show at 6 p.m. on the Les Schwab main stage.
Friday, July 25, will be Senior Citizens' Day, and Saturday, July 25, Can Cancer Day, with a Buckaroo Breakfast from 8-10 a.m. in the picnic pavilion.
The NPRA Rodeo will be held both Friday and Saturday in the Frank Corwin Arena, beginning at 7 p.m. Cost is $8 for general admission for 12 and up. For ages 6-11, cost is $4, and for ages 5 and under, admission is free.
This year, to mark the county's centennial, the Jefferson County Historical Society will sponsor daily tours of the homestead from 1-3 p.m., and the Jefferson County Players will perform historic skits at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, July 24, and at noon Saturday, July 26, in the picnic pavilion.
The old homestead and one-room schoolhouse will be open for tours from 1-3 p.m. each day. Meet at the picnic pavilion for tours.
