County debuts new website
Jefferson County has a new website, designed by AHA Consulting, of Portland, which went online last month.
"As the county's webmaster and social media manager, I can tell you that our newly designed website is a huge step forward," said Brian Crow, who is also the manager of the Jefferson County Fair Complex.
"Our new site is designed with accessibility in mind, using headings, styles and links to properly present content to screen readers used by the visually impaired," he said. "A translation feature will allow instant translation of the pages into several languages (Spanish, Chinese, French, German, Hindi, Italian, Korean, Russian and Vietnamese)."
"We added these features because we understand that we have both a legal and moral responsibility to communicate to all of our community," said Crow.
Other improvements include:
. The site is now fully searchable from any page to help visitors quickly and easily find what they need. The search feature not only finds information on the site, but searches the new document center for PDFs, spreadsheets and Word documents.
. All meetings and events are displayed on the "County Calendar" page, http://jeffco.net/calendar, with links to agendas, minutes and additional information.
. Also new is the searchable staff directory. This page is organized by department for quick access to individual contact information.
. Email subscriptions allow for community members to easily sign up for information and updates from various departments, including Jefferson County Commission meetings, job openings, requests for proposals, Jefferson County Fair Board Meetings, Public Works updates, Planning Commission meetings, and sheriff updates.
. The site is built upon a responsive framework which allows for proper display and operation across all platforms from cell phones to desktop computers. The site automatically resizes images and content to fit those devices.
"This new architecture is much more reliable and secure than our old solution," Crow said. "This will protect us from hackers and ensure more uptime with fewer errors."
"The new, faster and more elegant site can be found at the new www.jeffco.net domain now, as well as the old www.co.jefferson.or.us location," he said.
