Hospital taxes

To the Editor:

Now that the tax bills have come out, we want to assure the public that the tax dollars still being collected (at a reduced rate) for “Mt View Hospital levy” do not go to St. Charles Madras in any way, and are not being used for hospital operations.

The tax money is being used only to pay district expenses as outlined in the budget that we published in the Madras Pioneer last spring.

The district only remains at this time to make sure that St. Charles fulfills the obligations it agreed to in our Asset Transfer Agreement last year.

When that has happened we will follow the legal process to dissolve the district.

Mountain View Hospital District Board of Directors

CASA help

To the Editor,

I serve on the Board of Directors for CASA of Central Oregon — Court Appointed Special Advocates for children. It is our mission to provide every abused and neglected child in foster care with a qualified and compassionate advocate who will fight for and protect their fundamental right to be safe, and to be treated with dignity and respect.

Currently 25 children in Crook and Jefferson counties have the benefit of a advocate. Unfortunately there are 48 children on our waiting list who do not. These children are part of a system of judges, attorneys, foster homes and social workers.

I believe it is our fundamental obligation to help children who are in this system through no fault of their own. These children are our future and our responsibility, they need someone to stand up for them and ensure the system truly meets their needs. That person is a CASA volunteer, a specially-trained court appointed special advocate.

There are ways you can help. If you would like to learn more about becoming an advocate, please call 541-447-7220 or 541-475-9426. We also need the community’s financial support to recruit, train and support new advocates. I invite you to visit www.casaofcentraloregon.org and become a member of our Powerful Voice Society. Please help me make our dream a reality for these children.

Thank you.
