Dr. Jessica Tegen, left, and Dr. Audrey Brumley with new equipment.Madras Vision Source, owned by Dr. Jessica Tegen, is welcoming new associate Dr. Audrey Brumley.

Brumley is at the Madras office on Mondays and Wednesdays, but will increase her time here during Dr. Tegen‘s maternity leave in October. Tegen plans on returning to the office before the end of the year.

Brumley graduated this summer from the University of Houston College of Optometry, and did her undergraduate work at Oregon State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology..

She began working at Madras Vision Source in June and also works at High Desert Vision Source in Redmond, and Ochoco vision Source in Prineville.

“I grew up in Salem and am very happy to be in Central Oregon. I love having four actual seasons instead of just two,” she said. She and her husband Chris met at OSU, and he is employed at Deschutes Brewery in Bend.

“One of my passions is working with children,” Brumley said, noting she is a provider with the “Infantsee” program, which provides vision care for infants without vision insurance.

“We recommend children have their first eye exam at 6 months of age,” Tegen noted.

Many people don’t know they can come to Tegen and Brumley with eye emergencies, instead of going to the emergency room. They are also available for diabetic and glaucoma eye care, macular degeneration management, and can do pre- and post-operative co-management care for cataract and Lasik eye surgery.

Madras Vision Source now has an all electronic record system. “It makes for easier tracking of medical records for exams and everything," Brumley said.

The office also has new digital photopter equipment, which gives more precise and accurate information when people are examined for a glasses prescription, and a new OCT machine (optical coherence tomography), which gives three-dimensional images of the retina, for patients who need to have their retinas closely monitored.

When not at work, Brumley said she loves doing anything outdoors. She and her husband have two dogs and a horse, and she said, “I love horseback riding, hiking, and camping. I’m going to try to take up bird hunting this fall with my husband and our new bird dog.”
