Joseph and Rosemary SteeleAll friends and relatives of Joseph and Rosemary Steele are invited to help them celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary at a reception at 10:30 a.m., following the worship service, Sunday, Feb. 9, at the Madras United Methodist Church.

The Steeles were married Feb. 8, 1964 in Las Vegas, Nev.

They both worked at Eldon’s Toy Co. in Los Angeles, Calif., before moving to Madras in 1972. Mr. Steele was employed for 30 years at the Seaswirl boat company in Culver as the plant foreman. After retiring, he began doing flagging for highway construction crews, which he continues to do today. He served as president of the Junior Chamber of Commerce, and played Santa Claus for many years under the JC’s giant Christmas tree. Both he and his wife are members of the Madras Elks Lodge.

Mrs. Steele ran a day care service from their home, babysitting three generations of area children. She also makes doll clothes and handcrafts to sell at the Madras Saturday Market and area bazaars.

The Steeles have four children, Mary Henley of Salem, and Edward Steele of Metolius, the late Acie Henley, and the late Judy Henley; 11 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
