Hunter YoungJoining Worldrace -- a mission trip that covers 11 countries in 11 months – is the goal of Madras resident Hunter Young.

Young, 21, is a 2011 graduate of Madras High School and attended Northwest University Salem Campus to study Christian leadership in hopes of being a youth pastor someday.

To raise funds for his mission adventure, Young is holding a dinner and dessert auction at 6 p.m., Friday, March 14, at Living Hope Christian Center, 25 N.E. A St., Madras. The dinner is $5 per plate, or $15 per family.

Young said he needs to raise $16,285 for the year-long trip, and has raised $1,800 so far, but only half the funds have to be paid by the time the mission starts in July. He has several people who and helping him through monthly donations.

The Worldrace program is through “Adventures in Mission,” based in Atlanta, Ga.

“You go with a squad of people and there are 80 of us so far,” Young said, adding, “When we get to a country, we split up, with four to seven on each team.”

The countries where they will be doing missions include Turkey, Bulgaria, Romania, Albania, South Africa, Swaziland, Botswana, India, Nepal, Mongolia and China.

“We will be doing kids’ camps, street ministry, helping to build churches, working in orphanages, and taking supplies to isolated villages,” Young said. For more information, he can be contacted at 541-633-9272.
