Online auctioneer opens Madras storefront

Bid Northwest is located in the former Double Take store on D Street. The Bid Northwest auction business owned by Barry Dinkel of Culver has expanded into a storefront in the former Double Take building in downtown Madras.

For the past year, Dinkel has been operating a mobile auction business, holding auctions all over Oregon from his auction unit, made from a converted ambulance.

He is a 2011 graduate of Reppert School of Auctioneering in Indianapolis, Ind., and has always loved auctions, especially since they are something he can work into his farming schedule.

In the new venture, Cindy Fisher manages the storefront at 41 S.W. D St. (across from Great Earth Café), where consignment items are taken in and buyers can view items for sale.

“All sales are done online. She has the smaller items and I do the farm equipment and implements. We’re planning on having one sale every three months, but we’re just testing the waters right now,” Dinkel said.

Customers can view all the auction items at, and place bids. Or, they can come to the store to see smaller items including furniture, tools, and other home and estate items. The large items like tractors and heavy equipment can be seen online or in person in Culver on the corner of Iris Lane and 10th Street. New things are added daily as people bring in consignment items.

In April, the online sale ran from April 1-10, with consignments accepted until April 9.

“We’re gauging the demand, and shooting for one sale every quarter,” Dinkel said, adding, “It’s like a local eBay, but you can go and see, touch and feel the items.”

The Bid Northwest consignment store on D Street is open from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., seven days a week. Call Cindy Fisher at 541-507-9418 for more information.
