He started July 8, and plans to ride to all 36 counties in Oregon, and log approximately 2,000 miles over four weeks or so.

On Aug. 3, Grant spent the night at the home of Joe and Bonnie Buckles in Culver. He has ridden through 29 counties, has seven more to go, and has ridden 1,760 miles so far, according to his blog.

Donations will be matched penny for penny, up to $18,000 for a possible total of $36,000, by a generous donor. All donations are tax-deductible through the school's nonprofit status. To donate, contact J. Grant at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it., and include the following information: name, email address, mailing address, phone number, and donation or pledge amount.

To involve the students at Cascade View Christian School in Sublimity with the fundraiser, it was decided that the students will have an education piece along with collecting pledges and donations.

Since the bicycle trip is going to touch all 36 counties in Oregon, the students in second and third grades will have an opportunity to memorize the names of all 36 counties in exchange for a prize.

The preschool and first-graders may memorize the city, county, state, and country that they live in for a prize also.

Any student who wants to get further into the competition can submit a one-page essay on any one county in Oregon for an entry into a drawing for a bicycle.
