Sign up for annual Cowdeo
The annual Cowdeo will be held Oct. 14, with kids between 5 and 14 years competing in a variety of rodeo-style events.
The Jefferson County Fairgrounds has hosted the Cowdeo event since 1968. Now in its 49th year, Cowdeo provides kids the opportunity to experience friendly rodeo competition in a family atmosphere.
"This is a really fun event for participants and spectators alike." said Brian Crow, fairgrounds event coordinator. "The kids make this event exciting. It is really fun to watch them compete."
Sign-ups for contestants opened online Monday, Sept. 25, and the form can be found at the website jcfairgrounds.org.
Events being showcased this year are:
• Goat decorating.
• Horseless calf roping.
• Breakaway calf roping.
• Sheep riding.
• Calf riding.
• Cow riding.
• Barrel racing.
• Scurry races.
• Critter scramble.
"The Cowdeo is operated by an all-volunteer staff who pour their hearts and souls into producing a first- class event. They truly love the sport and the kids who come to compete," said Crow.
Showtime is at 11 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 14. Tickets are $5 at the door and kids under the age of 4 are free.
