Madras volleyball scores wins in Bend
Buffs advance to bracket round after 5-1 pool play mark
The Madras High School volleyball took some lumps early in the week with losses, but bounced back in the Mountain View tournament on Saturday.
The White Buffalos fell to Sisters in four sets, Crook County in three sets and then Cascade in four sets, before picking up pool play wins in Bend.
The Buffs defeated Class 6A McNary and Class 5A Redmond in two sets, then split sets with Class 6A Sunset to advance into the bracket round.
In the bracket round, though, they met eventual tournament champion Willamette (Eugene), and lost in two sets.
Against Cascade on Thursday, which was the Buffs' third match in two days, junior outside hitter Shelby Mauritson blasted 20 kills to lead the attack. Alexis Urbach chipped in 13 kills, with 3 1/2 blocks, but the Buffs fell in four, 25-19, 18-25, 25-23, 25-14.
Elle Renault had 31 assists to help lead the offense.
In a double-dual match with Sisters and Crook County on Wednesday to open the season, the Buffs fell to the Outlaws 25-15, 11-25, 25-15, 25-15, in the early match.
The Buffs then faced off with the Cowgirls to end the evening, and lost in straight sets 25-17, 25-23, 25-14.
Tuesday's results against Banks and Crook County in Prineville were not available by press time. The Buffs are back in action at 6 p.m. Thursday at Ridgeview.
