Madras has its chances in three close TVC contests

by: JEFF WILSON/THE PIONEER - The Buffs' Trevor Parsons slides safely into home during last week's doubleheader against Estacada. The Madras baseball team has been ever so close to notching its first Tri-Valley Conference win this season. But the White Buffalos have yet to seal the deal.

Madras dropped another close one Monday, losing at Molalla 3-0. That dropped the Buffs’ season record to 4-13 overall and 0-7 in league.

The weather has messed with the schedule and saw Madras and Estacada play a doubleheader last Thursday, which the Rangers swept 11-3 and 4-3.

But Madras had its chances to win both.

The Buffs built an early lead in the first game, scoring three times in the second inning. They held that lead until the fifth when the Rangers exploded for 11 runs to take the victory. Ethan Short paced the Buffs with a pair of hits in the game.

Short then hit the mound in the second game and his teammates staked him a 3-0 lead in the second inning.

But Madras once again couldn’t hold on. Estacada scored twice in the fourth inning to get close and then got the ultimate game winner with two more runs in the fifth.

Cody Shepherd drove in two runs on a seeing-eye single while Broc Sanders and Parker Dominguez collected two hits each in the game.

Madras is back at home Wednesday against Molalla and then plays host to North Marion on Thursday.

Both games are scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
