Another close loss leaves Madras at 0-10 in conference play

by: JEFF WILSON/THE PIONEER - Madras pitcher Ethan Short has had some strong outings as of late, but errors haven't helped the White Buffalos find that first Tri-Valley Conference victory. The Madras baseball team just can't seem to catch a break.

Two-thirds of the way through its Class 4A Tri-Valley Conference season, the White Buffalos are still without a league win after a 4-2 loss at North Marion Monday afternoon.

Combined with losses to Molalla and North Marion last week, the Buffs now sit at 4-16 overall and 0-10 in league play with just five games remaining in the regular season.

La Salle Prep is still on top of the standings with an 8-1 league mark and holds a two-game edge over North Marion. Gladstone is 6-4 while, Estacada, Molalla and Madras round out the standings.

Wednesday, the Buffs had one of their best shots at getting that first elusive league win, pounding out 18 hits against Molalla, but left the tying run stranded in scoring position. Austin Rauschenburg had a great game, banging out three hits, including a triple, and drove in three runs. Josh Ross knocked in a pair of runs on two hits while Bryce Rehwinkel and Ethan Short each had two hits and two RBIs.

North Marion roughed up Madras 14-4 Thursday, taking advantage of six Buff errors. Cody Shepherd and Broc Sanders paced the Madras offense.

The Buffs hit the road Wednesday at La Salle and then return home to face Gladstone Friday.
