Lillebo to takes reins of Madras girls hoops

Zach Lillebo has been confirmed as the Madras High girls basketball coach.

Lillebo, who was the co-coach last season along with former athletic director Rory Oster, had his hiring approved by the Jefferson County School District board last week.

“I know that Zach will do a great job,” Oster, who resigned last week to take the AD job at Camas, Wash., said. “He was the guy that I wanted.”

Under the guidance of both Lillebo and Oster, the White Buffalos went 16-10 overall and placed third in the Tri-Valley Conference, which was good enough for a berth in the Class 4A state playoffs.

The Buffs traveled to Ontario for a play-in game and moved into the first round of the tournament with a 58-45 win.

Madras drew top-ranked and undefeated Sutherlin next and fell 76-40.

But there is plenty for Lillebo to work with as Mariah Stacona, who was named to the all-state team, and Vanessa Esquivel both return.
