Yamhill County searches for BoPTA volunteers

County government — County clerks office now accepting applications for the Board of Property Tax Appeals, a volunteer position

The Yamhilll County Clerk’s office is in need of additional Board of Property Tax Appeals (BoPTA) volunteers.

The board is responsible for hearing taxpayer appeals for reduction of the real market or assessed value of their real and personal property.

According to a press release, county residents are being sought to volunteer on the board as an alternate board member.

The county is looking for candidates who have working knowledge of the local real estate market, both residential and commercial; are willing to participate in public hearings; can quickly review documentation while listening to the public; make decisions with the affected parties in attendance; have mediation skills, real estate appraisal, financing or related background as a strength; and who are familiar with Oregon property taxes.

All regular and alternate BoPTA team members are appointed by the Board of Commissioners and may consist of residents who are not employees or members of a governing body of the county or of any taxing district within the county.

BoPTA members receive a per diem rate of $45 per day. The Oregon Department of Revenue will provide mandatory training sessions prior to the hearing process. The term begins Oct. 15 and ends Jun. 30. Appeals are heard February through April 15. The BoPTA meets five different days for roughly six hours each day.

To apply, a resumé and a county application are required and must be received no later than 5 p.m. Nov. 15 in the clerk’s office. The appointment process will conclude by Nov. 30.

For more information or for an application packet, call 1-503-434-7518 or email clerk@ co.yamhill.or.us.
