City Council will consider approval of Terra Estates

Newberg government — Nov. 18 meeting will discuss approving application for controversial subdivision, adoption of supplemental budget

The Nov. 18 meeting of the Newberg City Council will consider approval of a subdivision plan for Terra Estates, a proposed development that has been a lightning rod for criticism from nearby neighbors for the past several months.

The council will hold a public hearing to discuss an application that would allow Terra Estates to move forward with planning and construction.

Neighbors of the proposed subdivision off North College Street have argued it is inconsistent with surrounding land uses and would add too much traffic to roads ill-equipped to handle it.

The City Council must make a decision on the application at this meeting unless the applicant agrees to further extend the decision. Mike Hanks, representative of Del Boca Vista LLC, submitted a letter to extend the hearing timeline Sept. 27 from the original date of Oct. 14.

A second hearing Nov. 18 will discuss the adoption of a supplemental budget.

The supplemental budget will increase the budget by more than $1.70 million for a total fiscal budget of more than $88.33 million. The changes are made due to unexpected revenue, including a National Endowment of the Arts “Our Town” grant. The supplemental budget outlines where the additional revenue will be allotted.
