SISTERS A Newberg man was killed Friday afternoon when his pickup was involved in a head-on collision on a state highway near this central Oregon town.
According to a report from the Oregon State Police, Andrew Diverna, 42, was driving his Toyota pickup eastbound at about 2:30 p.m. Friday on Highway 20 when an Acura SUV piloted by Bruce Sirnio, 61, of Salem, swerved into his lane and the two vehicles collided.
Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts and both vehicle air bags deployed, the OSP report said.
Highway 20 near milepost 86 is on the downward slope near Suttle Lake. Highway 20 was closed for about two hours as a result of the crash.
The cause is still unknown and there were no real weather conditions at the time of the accident, said OSP Sgt. David Pond, who responded to the accident, which remains under investigation.
OSP Lt. Steve Mitchell said no autopsy will be conducted because the accident was not criminal in nature.
Wendi Dion, a King City resident who was a passenger in Divernas pickup, received non-life threatening injuries and was transported by ambulance to Saint Charles Hospital in Bend. Her condition is unknown.
