City manager search on track

The first step in recruiting a new Newberg city manager is complete, with 58 applications received for the position.

Nancy Boyer, with Mid-Willamette Valley Council of Governments, is facilitating the search and said 58 applicants is a good number to have.

“I do recruitments for a number is cities, 58 is a very good number of applicants to receive. I don’t always see that high of a number,” Boyer said.

A candidate search was opened in December after former city manager Dan Danicic resigned in the summer when it was revealed he had an affair with a subordinate. Assistant city manager Lee Elliott took over in the interim.

Applicants are from all corners of the United States, including Vermont, Minnesota, Georgia, Rhode Island, Florida, Washington and about 20 from Oregon.

“I think we’re right on track. The next step is to review the applicants utilizing the city manager profile that was adapted by the city,” Boyer said. “I will take that information back to the city to the search committee for their review of what I determine to be the most qualified candidates in terms of their profiles.”

Boyer is scheduled to meet with the committee Feb. 19 to review her selections. She said at this point the process is on track to select the new manger by April.
