George Fox names new dean of business college

Higher ed — Chris Meade, head of the school's MBA programs since last fall, is chosen from a national pool of candidates, begins in May

After conducting a national search to find its next dean of the College of Business, George Fox University only went as far as its satellite campus in Portland to fill the position, hiring chairman of MBA programs Chris Meade.

Meade, who transitioned to George Fox’s Portland Center location for his current position in 2012, replaces Dirk Barram, a 28-year employee of the university who’s served as dean since 2011.Meade

Barram, who previously served as interim dean from 2006 to 2008 and for the first half of the 2011-2012 academic year, will return to the classroom as a full-time faculty member in August.

Meade has served in various roles in the College of Business since 2006. He worked as a professor at the school’s satellite campus in Boise, before taking his current position, which also included serving as an assistant professor of management. Meade’s assignment as dean will begin in mid-May.

Meade, recipient of the George Fox Graduate Teacher of the Year award for the 2010-11 academic year, holds a doctorate in organizational learning from the University of Idaho (2006) and both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in management and organizational leadership from George Fox.

“My desire is to inspire, coach and resource leaders, teams and organizations to grow personally, expand professionally and deepen spiritually in order to maximize their potential, live with passion, and work with purpose,” Meade said in a press release. “I see us building upon a shared-vision that is resident within our leadership team. As we unify around a clear and compelling vision, craft and hone our brand, and capture and tell our story of who we are and what we are about, we’ll successfully achieve our mission.”

Meade brings nearly 30 years of entrepreneurship, business ownership and management experience to his assignment as dean. In addition to his work at the university, he is the founder, president and executive leadership coach for Leadership Alive, Inc., a nonprofit organization that helps inspire, coach and resource leaders and teams. He has spoken at numerous events on leadership and has published a series of books through the organization.
