Government — Council will discuss grant, noise variance at its Aug. 4 meeting

Among other items not available for publication by press time Tuesday morning, the Newberg City Council will consider two resolutions during its Aug. 4 meeting.

The first would issue a public policy statement in concurrence with a Housing Rehabilitation grant. Awarded in 2012 for $400,000 the grant requires outreach to businesses owned by women, Section 3 residents (public housing) and minorities. Approving the statement would fulfill that requirement.

“The city of Newberg publicly supports and encourages entrepreneurship. The city also encourages businesses owned by women, Section 3 residents and minorities to bid on local projects and contracts when available. Businesses that may be eligible to be registered under the above classifications are also encourage to do so online through www.oregon4biz. com, the website of Business Oregon,” according to a statement draft.

The council will also consider a motion approving a noise variance request from the Oregon Department of Transportation. The variance would allow for nighttime work outside exempt hours on the OR240 to OR 18 project on Highway 99W. Construction would be allowed between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. as needed from Aug. 7 until Oct. 31.

A full council agenda will be published Thursday. For more information, visit
