The Newberg Graphic adds features to give the reader a little more for their money
Page through todays edition of The Newberg Graphic and youll notice some new features weve added in the past couple of months.
Theres our new Around the Region pages, which are compiled with stories from two primary sources: Pamplin Media Group, our corporate owners, and Northwest News Partnership, a consortium of small media outlets from across Oregon and southwest Washington.
The partnership allows small- to medium-sized newspapers to join forces with Oregon Public Broadcasting to share stories, photos, graphics and more.
We think Around the Region fills a niche in that it lets readers know whats going on in small, rural towns like Newberg and Dundee, news that readers wouldnt otherwise have access to without surfing a lot of websites.
Recently we also started a new feature, also through Pamplin Media Group, by freelance food columnist Barb Randall. Her column which last week featured help for Thanksgiving cooks faced with feeding guests who might be vegan, vegetarian or gluten- or lactose-intolerant are full of helpful, down-to-earth hints for cooking.
The paper has added recently some features for the kids, including cut-and-paste figures and connect-the-numbers drawings.
A full-page reproduction of a Newberg Graphic from long ago is featured on our history page and gives readers a glimpse of the stories and ads that used to grace the paper. Last week we reproduced a page from 1933 and reading the stories and checking out the advertisements can be captivating and, at times, a real hoot.
The sports section of the newspaper hasnt been immune to changes as well. Weve begun adding stories pulled from the Portland Tribune that feature teams you wouldnt normally see in the Graphic, including the Beavers, Ducks, Timbers, Trail Blazers and others.
Ultimately, were trying to give readers of the Newberg Graphic a little something more to mull over when they get their Wednesday paper.
We hope you enjoy these new additions and please let us know if there are other features youd like to see. Well try to accommodate.
