CPRD offers lifeguard classes
The Chehalem Park and Recreation District is offering lifeguard training during a two-weekend session starting Nov. 15. Participants must be a minimum of 15 years old. Upon completion, participants will receive Red Cross lifeguard, first-aid, CPR-PR and AED certifications. Training runs from 6 to 9:30 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Registration is $175 for district patrons or $200 for those who live outside the district, and includes supplies. The deadline to register is 6 p.m. Wednesday. Tai Chi class for beginners focuses on art form
A Tai Chi class being offered by the Chehalem Park and Recreation District, incorporates both health benefits and martial arts to provide students a better understanding of the craft. Classes are for ages 14 and up and begin Nov. 14. They will be an hour long beginning at 6:30 p.m. every Thursday until Dec. 19 at the Chehalem Armory Center. AHA Heartsaver, first-aid, CPR and AED classes set
For anyone with limited or no medical training who needs a course completion card in first-aid, CPR and AED to meet a job or other regulatory requirements, one will soon be available. Physical participation is required in order to pass. Competent completion of the course earns the student a two-year certification card. Students will be taught first-aid basics, medical emergencies and injury emergencies. The class is for ages 12 and up. Steve Hamilton will be teaching the 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. course Nov. 16 in the White Oak Room at the Chehalem Park and Recreation District headquarters, 125 S. Elliott Road.
