Ministry — Clearinghouse and churches have myriad ways for people to give this holiday season

To help get in the spirit of giving this Christmas, Love INC (In the Name of Christ) has some helpful suggestions this month.

For example, the Newberg Community Shelter is still looking for a host to work on Christmas Eve, but could also use donations of bras, underwear, local business gift cards, ear buds, sweatshirts with hoods and sack lunch kits.

The St. Peter Parish Linen Closet is in need of towel sets and pillows, which can be dropped off at 2315 N.Main St. from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.

2nd Street Community Church is requesting donations of coffee pots, toasters, pots and pans, casserole dishes (ideally with lids) and utensils for its kitchen set-up ministry. Donations can be made from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at 504 E. First St.

Donations of kid’s coats of all sizes for boys and girls will be put to good use by Newberg Church of Christ, which is open for collections from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday at 2503 Haworth Ave. The church is also accepting donations to purchase eyeglasses ($15 per pair) for its medical/dental clinic.

The Love INC clearing house, which is open for donations from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday at 209 S. Main St., could use hand warmers, umbrellas and gloves to help others combat cold weather this winter. Sleeping bags and tents would also be appreciated as several churches work to put together homeless kits this winter, as would helmets, locks and lights for the multiple-church bike ministry.

The non-food pantry at C3Newberg (formerly Godsong Community Church) is calling for donations of hand soap, shaving cream, dishwater soap, lotion, razors, empty laundry containers and empty spray bottles.

Seventh Day Adventist Church needs men’s jeans in good condition and young boy’s clothes for its Clothes Closet ministry.

Grace Baptist Church is looking for toothbrushes and deodorant for its personal care kit program, while the Diaper Ministry at Joyful Servant Lutheran Church could is requesting baby wipes.

Newberg Foursquare is always collecting daily and monthly bus passes, while the Love INC dinner club — through which local restaurants donate 10 percent of their sales for the day — will be at Pogy’s Subs Dec. 17.
