June Rex Hill Rainfall column

By Lewis Schaad, for the Graphic

This June seemed just about right: warm but not hot days and cool nights for good sleeping. The grape vines grew fast, as did the grass in the yard and garden. The garden was growing nicely by the end of the month. I expect the berry farmers were having a successful season.

The June average high temperature was 71.9 degrees, compared to last year’s 73.1 degrees, and the average low was 50.2 degrees, compared to last year’s 51.1 degrees.

The 1.22 inches of precipitation was the least since 2009; last year we had 1.52 inches. Our June average is now 1.66 inches. Our driest June was in 1951, when we received 0.05 inches. The wettest was in 1984 with 4.67 inches.

In the middle of the month I saw our first crop of 2014 deer. The pair still had their white spots and were frolicking in the vineyard.
