Donate blood, save a life

The public is invited to donate blood from 1:30 to 7 p.m. Aug. 5 at St. Peter Catholic Church, 2315 N. Main St.

The blood drive is being hosted by the American Red Cross.

Annual picnic open to all

The Yamhill Small Woodlands Association’s annual picnic will take place Aug. 5 at the Doyle Family Tree Farm, 24001 N.E. Ellis Lane.

Picnic festivities will begin with a social hour at 5 p.m., followed by a barbeque at 6 p.m. and a farm tour at 7 p.m.

Attendees are invited to bring a folding chair and a side dish. Burgers, hot dogs, drinks, plates and napkins will be supplied by the association.

Order a free water saving kit

Outdoor watering gauge kits are being offered to all people who receive water from one of the Regional Water Providers Consortium (RWPC) members.

The gauges allow people to monitor the amount of water used to irrigate their lawn and garden, which helps to avoid wasting water.

The RWPC consists of more than 20 local water providers and Metro. To view the full list of participating providers, visit www.conserveh2o.org/members.

Walk to raise money for local pregnancy centers

Pregnancy Counseling and Information Center is hosting Laps for Life 2013, an event that will raise money to fund the organization’s pregnancy centers in Mc­Minn­ville and Newberg.

The walk will take place from 9 to 10 a.m. Aug. 23 at the East entrance of Wortman Park on Patio C in McMinnville.

A lunch will be provided for all participants.

Volunteers asked to give blood

The American Red Cross invites all eligible members of the public to donate blood from 1:30 to 7 p.m. Aug. 7 at Zion Lutheran Church, 301 S. River St.

Volunteers are asked to schedule an appointment by calling the American Red Cross at 1-800-RED-CROSS or visiting www.redcrossblood.org. The sponsor code for the blood drive is NewbergCommunity.

Public invited to NHS Golden Gathering

The Newberg High School’s annual gathering of graduates from the 1930s to 1964 will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. Aug. 10 in the cafeteria at A-dec Inc., 2602 Crestview Drive.

Refreshments will be provided. Donations to cover expenses should be made payable to The Golden Gathering in care of Janise VanFleet, 123 N.W. 25th, McMinn­ville 97128.

Republicans endorse two local candidates for county office

The Yamhill County Republican Party announced two endorsements July 16 for the upcoming November election. For the remaining Board of Commissioner chair, Stan Primozich was the “clear choice.”

“He has been an outstanding member of our community and would be a great addition to our Board of Commissioners,” Alaina Conroy, party secretary said in a press release.

In a new move, the party also endorsed sheriff candidate Tim Casey.

“Our membership has decided that we should be endorsing Republican candidates for nonpartisan offices,” said Party Chairman Al LeMay. “We began that process tonight with the vote to endorse Tim Casey for Yamhill County sheriff.”

Coping with death topic of PNMC discussion Thursday

Providence Newberg Medical Center is offering a presentation on coping in the weeks and months following the death of a loved one.

The presentation will last for one hour starting at 1 p.m. Thursday.
