DAR chapter will begin meetings, health insurance forum slated, blood drive set

Local DAR chapter will begin meeting Sept. 14

The Champoeg Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will meet at 10 a.m. Sept. 14 at an undisclosed location in Sherwood. The chapter meets on the second Thursday of the month from September through April. Interested individuals are eligible for membership if they can prove lineal descent from an ancestor who aided in achieving American independence. The Newberg Public Library will host an informational meeting, "Health Insurance 101," from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 14. The program is presented by the State of Oregon Health Insurance Marketplace and the speaker will explain how health insurance works and what coverage options mean, as well as explain the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) and answer questions regarding health insurance in Oregon. Red Cross blood drive set for Wednesday in St. Paul

The St. Paul Fire Department and the American Red Cross will hold a blood drive from 1 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 6 at the fire station, 4233 Church Ave. Donors must be a minimum of 18 years old (16 with parental consent). Although no appointment is necessary, potential donors can streamline the process by visiting Red CrossBlood.org/RapidPass to complete the pre-donation reading and health history questions.

Dundee will get its party on Sept. 10

The annual Party in the Park is set for 1 to 4 p.m. Sept. 10 in Dundee Billick Park, 320 S.W. Fifth St. There will be an ice cream social, carnival games and prizes, music, a 4-H petting zoo, face painting, a bounce house and more. McMINNVILLE — The Cheahmill Chapter of the Native Plant Society of Oregon will hold several programs over the next two months.

"How to Identify Conifers in NW Oregon," is set for Sept. 28, while "Wicked Plants of Oregon" will be unveiled Oct. 26 and "Inventory of Roadside Vegetation in Yamhill County" is slated for Nov. 16.

All the programs begin at 7 p.m. after 15 minutes of social time and will take place in the Carnegie Room at the public library, 225 N.W. Adams St.

Watch a movie under the stars in Dundee

The Chehalem Park and Recreation District will stage Movie in the Park on Saturday at Dundee Billick Park, 320 S.W. Fifth St. Featured will be the movie "Moana." The event starts with snacks at 7 p.m., then a limbo contest at 7:30 p.m., with the movie to follow. Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs, concessions will be available, costumes are encouraged, children must be accompanied by an adult, all CPRD rules and codes of conduct will be enforced and dogs must be leashed.
