Golfer ends 2013 with a bang

Saundra Valentine recorded an ace on New Year’s Eve at Chehalem Glenn Golf Course. The Newberg resident hit the hole-in-one from 79 yards out with an 8-iron on hole No. 13.

Linfield hosting softball clinics

The Linfield College Softball Program is conducting two instructional clinics for girls ages 8-18 on Jan. 18 and Feb. 1.

All clinic instruction will be provided by the Wildcat coaches and players, who claimed second place nationally in 2012. Each clinic will stress the skills and fundamentals necessary to be successful at any level of competition. The skills covered will include hitting, bunting, baserunning and fundamental defensive play for infield and outfield.

There will also be time for pitchers and catchers to learn from the

Wildcat coaches and pitching staff.

For girls ages 13-18 both clinics will also feature a guest speaker who will talk about developing success skills on and off the softball field and a question and answer session where clinic about college and the softball recruiting process.

Wrestling fundraiser Friday and Saturday

Concurrent with the annual Earl Gillis Tournament, Ye Olde Pizza Shoppe will donate a portion of its proceeds Friday and Saturday to the Newberg High School wrestling program. The shop will be open until 10 p.m. Friday and open at 11 a.m. Saturday.
