NHS annual plant sale begins this Friday
Beginning Friday, the 2014 Newberg High School greenhouse plant sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays for the entire month. Plants are grown by NHS students in the greenhouse. Selections include 12-inch hanging baskets, vegetables, annuals, herbs, patio pots, perennials, sedums, native trees and shrubs. OSU Master Gardeners will be available to answer gardening questions and test soil pH from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays. CSLA auction, dinner coming Saturday
C.S. Lewis Academy will host its Taste of the Tropics dinner and auction May 3. The event will begin at 5 p.m. with a silent auction, followed by dinner and an live auction at 6:30 p.m. Cost is $25 per person. Canned food drive Friday at C.S. Lewis
C.S. Lewis Academy will host a canned food drive from 10 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. Friday. Students and adult supervisors will be going door to door to collect donations. Those that wish to donate can leave canned food items in a bag labeled C.S. Lewis Academy on their doorstep in the morning. Food collected in Newberg will benefit Friends in Service to Humanity (F.I.S.H.), while cans collected in Dundee will go to the Promise Pantry. After-school science program coming in May
The third session of the Meet Me in the Lab program at Edwards Elementary, a part of the Chehalem Park and Recreation Districts Mad Science After School Enrichment Program, will held from 3:40 to 4:40 p.m. Thursdays beginning Thursday and running through June 5. The program is for students ages 5 to 12 and cost is $101. Registration can be done in person at the Chehalem Aquatic and Fitness Center, by calling 503-537-2909 or visiting www.cprdnewberg.org.
Dundee parenting series wraps up May 6
Dundee Elementary School counselor Kevin Hall will host the fourth installment of the schools seminar on parenting at 6 p.m. May 6 in the library. The seminar will cover resilience. For more information, call 503-554-4850.
CVMS students compete in Battle of the Book
Chehalem Valley Middle School students Mason Shewell, Gabe OBrien, Eli O Brien and Annika Sellke competed at the seventh annual Oregon Battle of the Books State Tournament April 12 at Chemeketa Community College. CVMS was one of 15 middle schools to qualify for the event, won by Portlands Beverly Cleary School. OBOB features a 16-book reading list in the elementary and middle school divisions, and 12-book list for high school. Teams of four battle against each other in a quiz-show format.
